Mexico. Executives from O'Reilly Automotive confirmed the start of construction of what will be the brand's first distribution center in Mexico, located more precisely in the city of Guadalajara.
The first "O'Reilly prototype" Distribution Center will have an area of approximately 370,000 square feet, according to Brad Beckham, O'Reilly's chief operating officer. Beckham noted that O'Reilly "aims for an end date of the first half of 2023."
"This new facility will have the ability to provide distribution of businesses and stores in the Guadalajara metropolitan area and support growth in the surrounding region," Beckham explained. "Our distribution teams have a lot of experience in the design, planning and construction of new facilities, and we are very pleased with our progress in working with our leadership team in Mexico to launch this project in true O'Reilly style."
The company's leaders "remain excited about the growth opportunities we see in the Mexican automotive secondary market," Beckham added.
In late 2019, O'Reilly acquired Guadalajara-based Mayasa Auto Parts, the company's first foray into the Mexican secondary market. At the time of the acquisition, Maya operated five distribution centers that supported 20 Orma Autopartes stores and more than 2,000 freelancers throughout Mexico.
O'Reilly CEO Greg Johnson said the company's strategy in Mexico mirrors its strategy in the United States, and that the company's leaders are "happy with our progress in Mexico."
In the same vein, O'Reilly assured that it will continue to operate under the Mayasa/Orma brand indefinitely.
