Latin America. The multinational BASF announced its withdrawal from the market of paints for 0 km cars in South America, whose production was centralized in Brazil.
The transaction will be completed in 18 months, without affecting other divisions in Argentina.
The measure will mainly affect the Brazilian market, which has been the epicenter of production since the relocation of manufacturing lines from the Tortuguitas plant, Buenos Aires Province to the Demarchi plant in Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil.
The Tortuguitas plant will continue with the activities of the automotive refinish division and its state-of-the-art training center, the Refinish Competence Center (RCC), the chemical laboratories of the personal and home care chemical divisions and Chemetall, and administrative and service areas.
The Demarchi plant in Brazil will continue to be the main production center for decorative paints and the business will continue to operate normally, unchanged," the company said in a statement.
BASF will continue in the automotive refinish and decorative paints business under the Suvinil and Glasu! brands.
In 2021, BASF announced the cessation of automotive paint production at the Tortuguitas plant in the Province of Buenos Aires to move it to Brazil, in the face of Argentina's economic crisis.
