United States. The BMW Group took a major step towards the development of electric vehicles in the United States by initiating construction of a new High Voltage Battery Production Plant in the city of Woodruff, located in South Carolina.
This BMW Group industrial facility in Woodruff will produce sixth-generation batteries to supply the all-electric vehicles to be produced at the nearby BMW Group Plant in Spartanburg.
According to the company, more than 300 jobs will be created at BMW Group Woodruff Plant, with the opportunity to grow in the future.
In October 2022, the BMW Group announced a new investment of $1.7 billion in its US operations. Of this, $1 billion to prepare the Spartanburg Plant for all-electric vehicle production and $700 million to build a new High-Voltage Battery Production Plant in Woodruff.
The Woodruff facility will be approximately 100 acres in size, which includes the construction of a technology building and supporting buildings such as a cafeteria, fire department and energy center.
