United States. In an NHTSA recall report, General Motors revealed that 7,840 vehicles of various makes and models may have transmissions that were built with the wrong part.
"It is possible that the transmission was built with the wrong solar gear, which can cause the driver's side half-shaft to disengage from the transmission," the report states.
"This condition can cause the driver's side half-axle to disengage from the transmission, causing a loss of propulsion and/or a loss of mechanical park," he adds.
According to the report, loss of propulsion or mechanical parking can increase the risk of collision and rollover.
Drivers may hear a snap or squeak at the front of the vehicle if the problem is present.
