Mexico. Pirelli of Mexico extended its agreement for the protection of the Cuenca de la Esperanza Natural Protected Area (NPA) in Guanajuato.
The Italian company will adopt an additional 100 hectares, adding a total of more than 150 hectares under its protection, with an investment of 200 thousand dollars.
Since 2013, Pirelli has been working on the conservation of this area, starting with the adoption of 20 hectares and progressively expanding its participation. In 2024, the company allocated more than 78 thousand dollars in the recovery of just over 50 hectares, through activities such as reforestation and ecosystem maintenance.
With this new expansion, Pirelli will implement additional actions such as reforestation with native species, construction of embankment ditches for water retention, installation of filtering dams and maintenance of perimeter fencing for the protection of biodiversity.
The Esperanza Basin is a key ecosystem for Guanajuato, with important biodiversity that includes threatened species such as the peregrine falcon and the great horned owl. In addition, it is home to the La Esperanza dam, which provides approximately 8% of the annual water consumption for the city of Guanajuato. The conservation of this space contributes to the recharge of aquifers and the environmental balance of the region.
The signing event of the agreement was attended by the CEO and general director of Pirelli Mexico, Enrico Verdino; the manager of safety, health and environment and sustainability for North America of Pirelli, Jorge Martín Martínez; and the governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, who highlighted the importance of this type of alliance to strengthen environmental protection policies in the state.
