United States. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) will invest $922 million in the construction of a state-of-the-art paint plant.
The facility, which will operate in 2027, will reduce carbon emissions by 30% and save 1.5 million gallons of water annually, highlighting the company's efforts toward its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
The new 1 million-square-foot space will drive operational efficiency and quality in finishes and also strengthen flexibility in vehicle production. "Our customers will get exceptional exterior finishes as we continue to lead in environmentally responsible manufacturing," said Kerry Creech, president of Toyota Kentucky.
This investment is in addition to the $1.3 billion announced earlier this year for the production of a three-row electric SUV, scheduled for 2026. Since opening in 1986, Toyota has invested more than $11 billion in its Kentucky plant, which employs about 10,000 workers and produces models such as the Camry Hybrid and RAV4 Hybrid.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear praised the investment, calling it transformative for the state's families. In addition, Toyota has committed more than $20 billion since 2020 in the United States to support its electrification strategy, including the production of battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
