United States. As part of the AAPEX 2024 show, Philip Austin of Niterra North America and Rebecca Conway of Clarios were honored with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leadership Award from MEMA Parts Suppliers.
This recognition highlights leaders who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the automotive aftermarket industry.
Philip Austin: A Leader Committed to Educational Inclusion
Philip Austin, Training and Development Manager for Niterra North America, was recognized for his dedication to fostering inclusive educational opportunities within the automotive industry. Austin has developed accessible training programs for diverse groups and has worked closely with technical schools and repair shops, especially in urban areas, promoting the professional growth of technicians and future leaders from diverse backgrounds.
"Philip's leadership in education and inclusion has made a significant difference in the automotive industry," said Ben Brucato, MEMA's Vice President of Parts Supplier Membership and Engagement. "Their work has set a standard for fostering diversity and collaboration at all levels of the industry."
Upon receiving the award, Austin commented, "This recognition is an honor, but more importantly, it reflects the industry-wide commitment to building an inclusive environment that promotes innovation and growth."
Rebecca Conway: A Model of Support and Leadership for Women in the Industry
For her part, Rebecca Conway, Vice President of Aftermarket Marketing for the U.S. and Canada at Clarios, was honored for her tireless work in supporting and mentoring women within the parts and batteries industry. Through her leadership at Clarios and her involvement with organizations such as MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers and Women in Auto Care, Conway has been an advocate for the advancement of women in the industry.
"Rebecca's impact has been transformative," said Cheryl Dry, senior director of Program Management and Operations for MEMA's Parts Suppliers. "It has created spaces where women can thrive and take on leadership roles, inspiring everyone to continue working for gender equity in the industry."
With a clear focus on inclusion, Conway said, "This recognition is a reflection of the collective effort to support and empower women in our industry. My commitment is to continue working so that more women reach their full potential."
