China. Automechanika Shanghai 2024 concluded its first day with a record turnout of 6,763 exhibitors, representing a 20% increase compared to last year's event.
This edition, which marks its 20th anniversary, features 17 international pavilions covering more than 350,000 m² of exhibition space spread across 14 pavilions at the Shanghai National Convention and Exhibition Centre (NECC). The fair features a total of 81 side events, offering ample opportunities for networking, education, and collaboration.
During the opening press conference, Fiona Chiew, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, highlighted the role of the automotive sector as a key pillar of China's economic growth. "Automechanika Shanghai has grown at the same pace as the Chinese automotive industry, evolving from being a platform for Chinese companies to learn about developments in international markets to becoming a global event showcasing the latest market developments," Chiew noted. He also underlined the fair's commitment to sustainability, with eco-friendly initiatives throughout the event and with exhibitors, speakers and Innovation4Mobility Exhibition Areas promoting sustainable practices.
Li Zhang, general manager of China National Machinery Industry International Co. Ltd, also praised the event, noting that China's automotive industry, driven by sustainability and cutting-edge technologies such as autonomous driving and electric vehicles, is experiencing exponential growth. "Automechanika Shanghai reflects this strength, with international exhibitors eager to explore innovations in the Chinese market," said Zhang.
2024 Event Highlights:
The 2024 edition of Automechanika Shanghai attracted major global players in the automotive sector, including Bosch, ZF, PHINIA, SDS, and Henglong Group, all of them showcasing innovations ranging from eco-friendly materials and remanufactured parts to hydrogen fuel cell technologies and electric propulsion systems. Special attention was given to the New Energy and Connectivity sector, with more than 470 exhibitors in this fast-growing sector, focused on the latest developments in electric vehicles and smart and connected mobility.
- International presence and buyer involvement: The event had a strong international participation, with 17 pavilions from countries and regions, which hosted more than 290 exhibitors from all over the world. Highlights include Germany, which showcased SEG Automotive's high-voltage propulsion systems, and Turkey, with leading companies such as NSK and Seger. The show also attracted 215 buyer groups from more than 50 countries, highlighting the global appeal of China's automotive innovations.
- Sustainability and circular economy: Specialized areas within the exhibition, such as the Digital Solutions area and the Remanufacturing Zone, underlined the importance of sustainability and digital transformation in the industry. More than 70 exhibitors showcased remanufactured products, while seminars on sustainable development practices were held.
- Parallel Program and Industry Outlook: With more than 400 speakers participating in 81 events, Automechanika Shanghai offered an extensive parallel programme, including key lectures on topics such as new energy vehicles, smart mobility and connected vehicle policies. Highlights include the Global New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Summit and the International Summit of Connected-Vehicle Policies and Regulations.
- 20th Anniversary Celebrations: Automechanika Shanghai also celebrated its 20th anniversary with special events such as the "Nature Walk", supporting community tree planting, the Quest for a Racing Master simulated driving contest, and industrial visits to local factories and research institutions. In addition, the fair offered live broadcasts showcasing the highlights of the event.
