Messe Frankfurt subsidiaries in China promote sustainability and CSR

International. Sustainable thinking has become a key pillar of Messe Frankfurt's corporate philosophy. The company takes a holistic approach to implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.

In recognition of these practices as a leading trade show organiser, the headquarters in Germany was awarded a Bronze Medal in 2022 after successfully completing its first EcoVadis ESG rating.

Following this direction, subsidiaries around the world are also putting down roots with a long-term impact. Today, representatives from Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) are visiting their afforestation site in southwestern China, an example of a series of voluntary commitments to promote sustainability.

James Yu, Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai), referring to ESG aspects at Messe Frankfurt's subsidiaries in Greater China, said: "As trade fair organisers, we see the importance of promoting sustainability, and it is only possible by interacting with the various stakeholders that we can truly understand their needs and concerns."

"Our responsibility here lies in participating in and promoting various initiatives, whether it's using recycled or recyclable materials for booth construction, informing our customers about policy updates, or fostering transformation for a better tomorrow in business and society," he said.

Yu added, "Today's tree-planting activity is one of several social campaigns organized by the Greater China offices to raise local public awareness on a number of important issues."

"The project began in 2017 with the support of government agencies, automotive associations and the media in southwest China's Sichuan Province. Over the years, we have seen these trees bloom, which also symbolize the development of the region, and returning to this site is always a strong reminder of our commitment to promoting net-zero targets in the automotive industry, not only in the region but throughout China and the surrounding area."

Sichuan hosts the company's CAPAS Chengdu Regional Automotive Fair, an exhibition widely recognized by local industry locals for its focus and commitment to green development and the advancement of the sector.

With the region's growing focus on the adoption of new energy vehicles and connected mobility, the exhibition will serve its role in highlighting the new energy vehicle supply chain, with leading brands in parts and components, accessories, customization, repair and diagnostics, as well as battery suppliers.

Conferences will also be scheduled to address next-generation changes in the aftermarket in light of the growing era of electric vehicles.

CAPAS Chengdu is part of the Mobility & Logistics division and oversees around 40 global events in the automotive, transportation and logistics sectors. In total, the Greater China offices host seven related events spanning China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam, including Automechanika Ho Chi Minh City, Automechanika Kuala Lumpur, Automechanika Shanghai, and debutant Asiabike Jakarta, to name a few. Each focuses on the ongoing energy transition in their respective markets.

The group has also expanded its coverage of environmental technologies in the Technology & Textiles and Textile Technology segments. Various thematic exhibitions, such as Eco Expo Asia, covered eco-friendly solutions, as well as in other industrial sectors, such as air and water purification systems in buildings, sustainable technologies for textiles and accessories, food processing, automation and remanufacturing.

In addition to tree planting, many other important community activities have been carried out over the years by the trade show project teams.
