Magna expands operations in Ontario

Fábrica automotriz

North America. Magna announced it will invest more than $470 million to expand its operations in Ontario.

The growth includes a new battery cabinet installation in Brampton to support Ford F-150 Lightning programs and future OEMs.

In addition to the Brampton facility, Magna says it is growing at its locations in Guelph, Belleville, Newmarket, Windsor and Penetanguene.

These expansions follow new business awards from several automakers in key product areas. They are also supported by $23.6 million in grants from the Ontario government to bring additional high-quality jobs to the region with ongoing employee training and development programs.

Magna says it expects the new and expanded operations to bring more than 1,000 new jobs to Ontario over the next few years.

"Magna's roots in Ontario run deep and we are excited to open a new facility dedicated to a strategic electrification product," said Magna Director of Sales and Marketing Eric Wilds.

"The Brampton facility, along with investment and growth at five existing facilities in Ontario, allows Magna to keep up with customer demands in various product areas. We are excited to bring new businesses, more investment and additional jobs to Ontario."

Prime Minister Doug Ford said: "This investment represents another great show of confidence in the growing strength and resilience of our province's automotive sector.

"Together, with our industry partners, we are putting Ontario back on the map as we build Ontario's electric vehicle supply chain; from mining to manufacturing," he said.

"The cars of the future and the batteries that power them will be built right here in Ontario, by Ontario workers," he said.
