International. The plant also buys additional power from renewable sources and buys carbon credits to fully offset its CO2 emissions.
The Iveco Group inaugurates a new ePowertrain plant in Turin, Italy. This is the Group's first fully carbon-neutral manufacturing plant.
FPT Industrial, the global powertrain brand of the Iveco Group, inaugurated its new ePowertrain plant in Turin, Italy, a manufacturing site entirely dedicated to the production of the electric powertrain range and the Iveco Group's first fully carbon-neutral plant.
With a total area of 15,000 square meters, the plant generates its own energy with solar panels and other innovative wind and photovoltaic energy technologies.
An internal space of 6,000 square meters planted with 100 drought-resistant plants adds an expected additional CO2 absorption of approximately seven tons per year.
At full capacity, the plant will employ around 200 people to produce more than 20,000 electric shafts and more than 20,000 battery packs per year. Electric axles will be equipped with heavy-duty vehicles such as the Nikola Tre truck, while electric transfer cases and compact battery packs will be installed in light commercial vehicles and minibuses, such as the new Iveco eDAILY. These two zero-emission vehicles were recently presented at the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hannover, Germany.
The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies, including highly automated warehouses, augmented and virtual reality, smart sensors, 3D scanners for metrology-grade measurements, 3D reality simulators, cooperative robots and thermal imaging cameras, will ensure increased safety, sustainability, quality management, productivity and logistics.
Iveco Group Chief Executive Gerrit Marx said: "Iveco Group has set itself the challenging goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2040, ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement deadline. This applies equally to our products and the places where we work to produce them."
"From this plant, we will provide e-powertrain applications that will complement an already extensive engine line-up, confirming our willingness to offer customers the right products and services to meet their rapidly changing needs and our credible ambition to lead the electromobility race."
