Toyota and Woven Planet develop prototype hydrogen cartridge

International. TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION ("Toyota") and its subsidiary, Woven Planet Holdings, Inc. ("Woven Planet"), have developed a working prototype of their portable hydrogen cartridge. This cartridge design will facilitate the daily transportation and supply of hydrogen energy to power a wide range of daily life applications inside and outside the home.
Toyota said, "they will conduct proof-of-concept ("PoC") tests in several locations, including Woven City, a human-centered smart city of the future currently being built in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture."

Additionally, Toyota and Woven Planet reported that they are studying carbon neutrality, as they consider hydrogen to be a promising solution. "Hydrogen has significant advantages. When hydrogen is used, zero carbon dioxide (CO2) is emitted. In addition, when hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal and biomass, CO2 emissions are also minimized during the production process." Hydrogen can be used to generate electricity in fuel cell systems and can also be used as a combustion fuel.

In addition, together with ENEOS Corporation, Toyota and Woven Planet are working to build a comprehensive hydrogen-based supply chain aimed at accelerating and simplifying production, transportation and daily use. "These trials will focus on meeting the energy needs of Woven City residents and those living in surrounding communities," the manufacturer said.

Among the benefits of using hydrogen cartridges is that they have portable energy, it is affordable and makes it possible to bring hydrogen to where people live and work, this then does not require the use of pipes. It also features prototype dimensions 400 mm (16") long x 180 mm (7") in diameter. Small-scale infrastructure can meet energy needs in remote, non-electrified areas and be dispatched quickly in the event of a disaster.
