Mexico. An increase of 19.6% registered the production of auto parts in Mexico during the year 2021, for a total of US$93,799 million. Estimates indicate that this market could increase by 5.2%.

This was announced by the executive president of the National Auto Parts Industry (INA), Alberto Bustamante, who highlighted regarding the production of auto parts by entities, that Coahuila was the state with the highest production of auto parts in 2021, reporting 16.9% of the total.

The list was followed by Chihuahua, which manufactured 12.3% of Mexican auto parts; Nuevo León, with 11.2%; Guanajuato, with 11.0%, and Querétaro with 6.6%.

Export and employment
The president of the INA warned that the auto parts industry is very aware of vehicle sales in the United States, since it is the main customer in this country, and to which more than 80% of the total production of auto parts are destined.

With regard to employment, the executive stressed that the Mexican auto parts industry ended 2021 with a total of 863,000 direct jobs, which represents an increase of 1% compared to 2020, a positive trend that will continue this year to reach 866,000 sources of work.

A highlight reported by Alberto Bustamante is that, in 2021, Mexico was the country that exported the most auto parts to the United States, with 36.88% of the total, followed far behind by China with 10.06%, Canada with 9.72%, Japan with 8.64% and Germany with 6.66%

"Mexico is consolidated as the main supplier of the United States with 36.88%, that is, almost four times more than its second supplier, which is China, with only 10.06% and that continues the decline," emphasized the executive.

Semiconductor industry
On this aspect, the president of the INA revealed that the production of vehicles worldwide in 2021 was 75.5 million units; however, the shortage of semiconductors meant that 9,532,585 vehicles were no longer produced, that is, 12.6% of the total.

The region with the greatest impact on this semiconductor crisis was North America, which stopped manufacturing 2 million 472 thousand 038 vehicles, followed by Europe that stopped producing 2 million 385 thousand 260 units due to this fact.
