Mexico. Leaders of the automotive sector called on Mexican authorities to strengthen their dialogue efforts with their counterparts in the United States to reactivate the flow of trade on Mexico's northern border.
The petition released on Friday, led by the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), arose after the excessive flow of migrants on the border between Mexico and the US has led to a brake on the transit of cargoes, and a millionaire damage to the industry.
"From the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry we call on the federal and local governments to redouble the efforts of dialogue and collaboration with the authorities of the neighboring country to the north, in the search for agreements that allow solving these delicate issues, which are already having important impacts on trade operations and, with this, in the economy of the two nations, "said the Association.
On the eve, businessmen from northern Mexico also demonstrated against measures such as those activated in Texas, where, with the aim of preventing the illegal crossing of migrants, cargo checks became slow, delaying the flow of goods and even stranding cargo units that are heading towards US territory.
The AMIA explained that, although a humanitarian crisis is being dealt with, a solution that does not affect trade is urgent.
"We urge the authorities of both countries to take the pertinent measures to solve the effects that are being had on international trade. We emphasize seeking to preserve the safety of people, while maintaining an adequate flow of goods," he said.
The AMIA even added that the situation is an opportunity to weave alliances that allow addressing situations like the current one, not only immediately, but in the long term, with a humanitarian approach and preventing economic effects that worsen social problems.
