Mexico. Given the extension of the UAW strike to 38 distribution centers of General Motors and Stellantis spare parts located in 20 states of the American Union, the National Auto Parts Industry (INA) indicates that this new determination of the union will have a marginal effect in Mexico in the short term.
From the perspective of the INA, this marginal effect is due to the fact that auto parts exports to the United States are mainly focused on the terminal automotive industry and not on the aftermarket.
"Therefore, this update does not modify the INA's estimate regarding the effect of the strike, so the production of auto parts at the national level could present an additional decrease of approximately $ 76 million dollars during the next week, which continues to represent a minimum percentage of Mexican exports of auto parts to the United States," the association said.
The INA also highlighted that, on September 19, the Canadian auto union Unifor, which represents approximately 18,000 Canadian workers in the automotive industry, successfully completed contract negotiations with the three automakers currently involved in negotiations with the UAW union in the United States, "which will contribute to strengthening the labor stability and productivity of the automotive industry in North America."
Finally, the association assured that it will continue to follow up on this issue, and will provide new information based on the events that are presented.
