By 2030, 100 million electric vehicles are expected to circulate

vehículos eléctricos

International. The vehicles that we saw in movies and TV series as the cars of the future, are already a reality. Autonomous cars that only need the driver to indicate the destination and the car takes care of everything else.

Choose the best route to avoid traffic, do not exceed the speed limits, are always close and free for the user even and come with a single call. Its materials are recyclable and totally free of emissions, the environmental footprint will be practically zero, the great challenge will be in the management of the batteries that are ending their useful life.

The study "Automotive Sector" carried out by EAE Business School, gives an account of the environmental and economic impact that hybrid and electric cars will bring to the sector in the coming years. "The car will evolve into a technological platform, equipped with the most advanced resources that will be associated with aspects that go beyond driving," said Eduardo Irastorza, professor at EAE Business School and author of the study.

Currently, there are only 10 million electric vehicles on the road globally, but it is estimated that by 2030 the figure will exceed 100 million. In 2050 a large increase is expected, exceeding 70% market share of this type of car. In Colombia, electric mobility continues to rise, in August 2021 1,123 electric vehicles were sold. Throughout the year sales have been over 11,200 units.

The fall of the automotive sector is reflected worldwide as a result of the crisis derived from Covid-19 and its difficulty in recovering the pre-pandemic figures, which is estimated for three years from now.

"The current model of sustainability is not sustainable, nor energy, economically, ecologically and operationally. The recovery of the sector must be raised from concepts such as sustainability, mobility or digitalization, "said Irastorza.
