New product to remove and prevent DEF crystals in diesel engines

United States. Rislone has developed a solution: DEF Crystal Clean™ Diesel DEF & SCR Emissions System Cleaner, this product is designed to remove existing glass deposits and prevent their reappearance.

Diesel engines are known for their power and fuel efficiency, and with proper care, they can last twice as long as gasoline engines.

In modern diesel engines, proper maintenance includes maintaining the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, which is crucial for reducing pollutant emissions.

The SCR system works by injecting diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) into the hot exhaust stream and filtering it through a catalytic converter, converting harmful emissions into nitrogen and water. Although the SCR system is generally invisible to the user, under certain conditions, the DEF can break down and evaporate, leaving deposits of white crystals that clog the system's components and affect its performance. This can increase fuel consumption and reduce engine power, leading the vehicle to operate in "emergency mode."

These deposits form when water from urea-based DEF evaporates, leaving behind crystallized urea residues. The main causes of these crystals include:

  • Leaks in the SCR system
  • DEF Tank Overfill
  • Improper handling and storage of DEF
  • Low-quality DEF
  • Contamination from diesel fuel or other chemicals

Diesel vehicles that are used at low speeds, with light loads, on short journeys or with frequent stops are particularly prone to developing these tanks. Signs of pollution include warning lights and OBD codes such as P20EE, P20EF, P204F, P207F, P20E8, and P218F, as well as a decrease in fuel efficiency and vehicle power.

Faced with this problem, Rislone has developed a solution: DEF Crystal Clean™ Diesel DEF & SCR Emissions System Cleaner (p/n 34784). This product is designed to remove existing crystal deposits and prevent their recurrence.

"Our new DEF Crystal Clean makes SCR system maintenance as simple as taking care of any other fluid system in the vehicle," says Clay Parks, vice president of development at Rislone. "Simply clean the system of any existing glass by installing DEF Crystal Clean in a nearly full DEF tank. Then, to keep the system clean, DEF Crystal Clean must be added every 8,000 kilometers. In most cases, it's that simple."

Rislone's DEF Crystal Clean is a proprietary blend of cleaning agents and detergents designed to safely and effectively clean SCR systems in diesel vehicles of all sizes. This product dissolves crystal deposits throughout the system, eliminates related OBD codes, and restores SCR function. Regular use helps keep the system clean, prevent new crystals, and improve the longevity of emissions components.
