Mexico. Volkswagen de Mexico has begun production of the new Taos at its Puebla plant, marking the second launch in just three months and following the unveiling of the New Jetta in July.
The company said that the first units of the Taos will be destined for the Mexican market and North America. This launch begins the second production cycle of the Taos, a model that was incorporated into the assembly lines in Puebla in October 2020 and has managed to stand out as one of the brand's most relevant vehicles in Mexico.
The start of production was led by Holger Nestler, president and CEO of Volkswagen de Mexico, together with Thomas Jakobler, vice president of Production and Logistics, and a team of Segment 3 workers.
"With a solid production of the Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Taos, Volkswagen de Mexico is positioned as a key player in Volkswagen's strategy for the SUV segment. The manufacture of 1.6 million units of these two models in Mexican hands reinforces our commitment to continue offering high-quality products to our customers," he said.
Carlos Henry, director of the Volkswagen brand in the country, commented that as of September, the Taos has established itself as the second best-selling midsize SUV in Mexico, and assured that the update of the model will guarantee its success in sales.
In addition, Volkswagen de Mexico reached an important milestone in May 2024 by registering 14 million vehicles produced in its 60 years of presence in the country.
