United States. The company was honored on May 30th with the recognition as Climate Leaders of America 2024.
The award is presented by USA TODAY and Statista Inc., a statistics portal and provider of industry rankings.
"We are honored to be recognized as Climate Leaders by USA TODAY, as environmental sustainability is a key focus in every part of our business and an approach for every person in our company," said Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager of BorgWarner's Transmission and Battery Systems, Environmental Sustainability Leader.
Statista publishes industry rankings and company listings worldwide with high-profile media partners. This research and analysis service is based on the data and business intelligence portal providing statistics, relevant business data, and various market and consumer studies and surveys.
The Climate Leaders of America 2024 award is based on a two-step process. First is the application and research phase. Companies could be included in the list by applying online or having the necessary data publicly available. To be considered for the award, a company must meet the following criteria:
- The company must be headquartered in the United States.
- The company had revenues of at least $50 million in 2022.
- Independent emissions report with data on Scope 1 and Scope 2 for the years 2020 and 2022.
- If a CDP rating is available, the score must be at least C.
- Broader environmental record (for example, no oil exploration, no greenhouse gas pollution, or no deforestation).
- The second step is the data analysis and scoring phase. For all companies meeting the inclusion criteria, the year-over-year reduction in emissions intensity was calculated (compound annual reduction rate).
"Our Charging Forward strategy aligns with a future of low-carbon emissions, increasing the production of components for electric and hybrid vehicles at market pace and emitting lower vehicle emissions on the road. We know that to create a cleaner and more energy-efficient world, we must continue to adopt sustainable practices not only in the products we manufacture but also in how we manufacture products, the materials used, and the suppliers we collaborate with," added Volker Weng.
