Michelin advances in the construction of a new phase at its plant in León

Michelin

Mexico. The tire manufacturer, Michelin, is already in the process of building the second phase of the plant project located in León, Guanajuato.

This plant number 2 consists of an area of 24 hectares of a project that has planned the realization of six phases, aiming to become the largest production complex of the 69 that the French tire has worldwide.

The Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo met with the global CEO of Michelin, Florent Menegaux, on his visit to the facilities of the global tire company in pilBA Park, located in the city of León.

This plant inaugurated its first phase in 2019 with an investment of 510 million dollars, where more than 1,500 people work in an area of 142 thousand square meters.

Michelin has 122 of the 3,000 hectares of the PILBA industrial park for future expansions.

Michelin has held several recruitment events in the Bajio entity as it expects to reach 3,000 direct jobs by the end of 2023. The six-phase master plan could generate up to 5,000 direct jobs in total, with 4 of the phases dedicated to tires for passenger vehicles and two more for heavy vehicles.

The amount of investment captured by the construction and commissioning of the second phase of Michelin in León, Guanajuato will be announced at a future date, but it is expected that this will be in the order of hundreds of millions of dollars and includes the formal announcement of the third phase of the complex.

Currently, the Michelin plant produces about 5 million tires a year, and supplies various manufacturers in North America, including Tesla. This volume of production would be doubled with the entry into operation of the second phase, according to sources close to the company.
